NYU men’s soccer loses close match to Stevens Institute of Technology

The New York University men’s soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, September 27, in Newark, New Jersey.

Stevens scored first in the 18th minute after a ball was knocked down by NYU goalkeeper Ludvig Hillberts outside the box. NYU responded just before halftime when Keyon Namdar set up Terra Nagai for a goal in the far corner.

During the second half, both teams created scoring opportunities. Stevens regained the lead in the 72nd minute and added another goal in the 80th minute. Despite being reduced to ten players in the 85th minute, Stevens held off NYU’s attempts to capitalize on a free kick.

NYU managed to score again in the final minute as Ethan Zarka found the net with an assist from Audric Ma at the top of the box.

Statistically, NYU out-shot Stevens 20-17 and led in corner kicks with six compared to four for Stevens. Both teams recorded six shots on goal.

NYU will begin its University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule with an away match against University of Chicago on Saturday, October 4. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
