The New York University men’s basketball team, ranked 22nd nationally, was defeated by fifth-ranked Emory University with a final score of 103-80 on Sunday in Atlanta.
Emory began the game strongly, making all five of their initial three-point attempts and establishing a 15-5 lead. NYU responded with a matching 15-5 run to tie the game at 20 points. During this stretch, Alex Daniels contributed seven points coming off the bench.
Later in the first half, NYU briefly took a 38-33 lead following a three-pointer from Carnegie Johnson. The first half saw seven lead changes and ended with an alley-oop dunk by Emory that put them ahead 52-48 at halftime.
Luke Kolaja led NYU scorers in the first half with 19 points, including four three-pointers. However, Emory extended its advantage in the second half, outscoring NYU 51-32 over the final period. The Eagles opened after halftime on a 9-2 run before Kolaja made another three-pointer to bring NYU back within single digits. A layup by Quinn Clark later cut Emory’s lead to six points, but NYU could not close the gap further for the rest of the game.
Kolaja finished as NYU’s top scorer with a season-high 32 points and made seven out of twelve attempts from beyond the arc. Clark recorded eleven points and nine rebounds.
NYU is scheduled to play next Friday at home against Washington University in St. Louis at John A. Paulson Center, with tip-off set for 5:30pm.
