The New York University men’s and women’s track & field teams hosted the NYU DIII Invitational at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in Manhattan on Saturday, February 14. On the same weekend, several other NYU athletes competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational held at Boston University.
At the DIII Invitational, Adrianna Kosmont made her debut in the unseeded 60m race and secured first place with a time of 8.26 seconds. In the women’s 400m event, Beverly Okyere achieved a personal best of 1:00.03, finishing seventh out of 32 runners.
In the women’s 3000m, four NYU runners placed among the top ten. Emily Castles led with a fifth-place finish in 10:21.84, followed by Paisley Piepgras (sixth), Lindsay Guthrie (seventh), and Rachel Newman (tenth).
For the men’s team in the 3000m event, James Jenkins finished second with a personal-best time of 8:39.69. Jordan Pearlman took fifth place in his season debut, while Micah Taffet and Brandon Meiner finished sixth and seventh respectively.
William Cornick participated in the men’s 800m race and placed twelfth out of fifty competitors with a time of 1:58.99.
In the men’s 200m event, Emmanuel Brito finished eleventh and James Thompson came fourteenth.
“We had some nice performances today,” said Head Coach Tyler Deck Shipley. “This is always a great meet and we are privileged to host it at such a prestigious venue.”
At Boston University’s invitational, Liam Hagerty was NYU’s only male competitor on Friday night; he set a personal record in the men’s 5000m with a time of 14:30.28 against mostly Division I athletes.
On Saturday in Boston, Stella Kuttner ran a personal best mile for NYU women, placing fifty-ninth out of more than two hundred participants. Gianna Dawson also set a personal record in the women’s 800m while Rina Kurihara completed that race as well.
Janie Cooper represented NYU in Boston’s women’s 3000m event while Katherine Cochran, Josephine Dziedzic, Lucy Gott, and Daniela Sekhar all competed for NYU in different heats of the women’s long-distance events.
There was no team scoring recorded at either meet.
NYU track & field teams will next compete at Brandeis University during the University Athletic Association Championships from February 28 to March 1.
