The NYU Health Sciences Library (NYUHSL) at NYU Langone Health has received the 2025 Research Advancement in Health Sciences Librarianship Award from the Medical Library Association. This award acknowledges efforts to improve research practices within health sciences librarianship.
Joey Nicholson, PhD, chair of the department, led the team that was recognized for fostering a research culture at NYU Langone Health. The library’s initiatives have allowed librarians to support clinical care, education, research, and administrative innovation throughout the institution.
Projects cited include creating a simulated evaluation to assess evidence-based practice skills among medical students and developing tools that help nurses access evidence sources relevant to their career stages. Additionally, the library designed resources for researchers to share data ethically and efficiently while following National Institutes of Health regulations.
“This award celebrates leadership in advancing research practice within health sciences librarianship. NYUHSL was recognized for sustaining a research culture at NYU Langone Health that empowers librarians to contribute meaningfully to clinical care, education, research, and administrative innovation across the institution,” according to the announcement.
Recent work by NYUHSL includes projects supporting both students and professionals as they navigate evolving requirements for data sharing and evidence-based practice in healthcare settings.
