A pair of New York University basketball players have been recognized as University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week following their performances in recent games.
Senior Caroline Peper from the NYU women’s basketball team and graduate student Luke Kolaja from the men’s team received the honors after contributing to victories on Saturday.
Peper achieved her first career double-double during NYU’s 90-48 win over Brooklyn College. She scored a game-high 25 points and recorded personal bests with 10 rebounds and seven assists. Additionally, she made three steals in a game that marked NYU’s 70th consecutive win, which is currently the second-longest winning streak in NCAA Division III women’s basketball history. Peper leads the undefeated Violets, who are now 8-0, with an average of 23.6 points per game.
Kolaja played off the bench for the men’s team in their 95-83 victory over Lancaster Bible College. He scored 18 points on efficient shooting, making seven out of eight attempts from the field and converting his only three-point shot. In addition to scoring, Kolaja secured a game-high eight rebounds, along with three assists and one block for the Violets, who improved to an 8-1 record.
Both teams will take a short break before resuming play later this month. The women’s team is scheduled to participate in the Montreal Winter Tournament in Canada on December 29-30. The men’s team will host John Jay College at the John A. Paulson Center on December 30.
