The 2025 Tony Awards, held on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall, saw NYU alumni take home top honors. “Maybe Happy Ending,” a musical about two robots falling in love, was the standout winner with six awards. The creators of the musical, Will Aronson and Hue Park, both NYU graduates, won for best book and score.

“Sunset Boulevard” received the award for Best Musical Revival with six NYU alumni as producers. Branden Jacob-Jenkins added a Tony to his accolades for “Purpose,” named Best New Play. Sam Pinkleton from Tisch School of the Arts was awarded Best Director for “Oh, Mary!”

Paul Tazewell won Best Costume Design for a Musical for his work on “Death Becomes Her.” In total, members of the NYU community were nominated over 60 times across various categories.

Daniel Dae Kim made history by being the first AAPI actor nominated for Leading Actor in a Play with his role in “Yellow Face.” Aronson’s and Park’s musical earned ten nominations overall. Fina Strazza received a nomination for her performance in “John Proctor is the Villain.”

The event was presented by the Broadway League and American Theatre Wing and hosted by Cynthia Erivo. Full details of all nominees and winners can be found on the Tony Awards website.
