Rep. Nydia Velázquez, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district, has been active on social media discussing recent events and initiatives. Velázquez, who replaced Stephen Solarz in 1993, has been a long-standing representative from Brooklyn with roots in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico.

On January 29, 2025, Rep. Velázquez shared that she hosted two immigration strategy roundtables aimed at countering former President Trump’s policies. She stated: “Today, I hosted two immigration strategy roundtables to fight back against Trump’s harmful policies.” The event took place at CUNY Law in Long Island City where immigration experts and advocates discussed strategies to protect immigrant communities.

On January 30, 2025, she extended her greetings for the Lunar New Year celebrations: “Happy Lunar New Year to everyone celebrating in New York City, across the country, and around the world!” Velázquez expressed her wishes for abundance and prosperity for those observing the occasion.

Later on January 30, Velázquez addressed a tragic incident involving a plane crash in Washington D.C., stating: “My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by the tragic plane crash in DC tonight.” She acknowledged the efforts of first responders working at the scene and offered prayers for all those impacted.
