Rep. Nydia Velázquez, U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, posted a series of updates on December 1, 2025, addressing topics from healthcare enrollment to education funding and HIV/AIDS awareness.
In her first message of the day, Velázquez reminded constituents about ongoing health insurance registration: ” Reminder: Open Enrollment is ongoing! Make sure you and your family have the coverage you need for the year ahead. Visit https://t.co/SmgGr9Zu5n to review your options and sign up before the deadline. If you need help choosing a plan, NYC residents can get free” (posted December 1, 2025).
Later that evening, she criticized federal actions affecting New York City schools: “The Trump administration is withholding millions in magnet school funding from NYC because the city refuses to bow to its anti-trans policies, and it is the kids who will pay the price. This attack on opportunity and stability undermines educational equity and the trust https://t.co/sEGcFtcnKC” (posted December 1, 2025).
On World AIDS Day, Velázquez acknowledged those affected by HIV/AIDS and called for continued advocacy: “On World AIDS Day, we honor the lives lost, stand with those living with HIV/AIDS, and recommit to ending stigma and expanding access to care. Progress is possible when we lead with compassion, equity, and science. Let’s keep fighting for a future free of HIV/AIDS. https://t.co/6CISVItKBY” (posted December 1, 2025).
Nydia Velázquez has represented her Brooklyn-based district since succeeding Stephen Solarz in Congress in 1993. Born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico in 1953 and currently residing in Brooklyn at age 70, she holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras.
