Nydia Velázquez, a long-serving U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, has taken to social media to express her concerns about former President Donald Trump’s policies and their impact on American families and businesses. Through a series of tweets, she criticized the economic implications of Trump’s tariffs and anticipated his public address.

On March 4, 2025, Velázquez tweeted that “Trump’s tariffs are a direct tax on working families and small businesses.” She claimed that instead of alleviating inflation, these tariffs would increase costs by an estimated $800 per household in 2025. Velázquez highlighted the discrepancy between Trump’s promises of lower prices and the reality of increased expenses.

In another tweet posted on March 5, 2025, Velázquez commented on Trump’s upcoming Joint Address. She stated that “Tonight, Trump will take the stage at his Joint Address and try to spin his failures into success.” According to her post, she expected no solutions from Trump but rather blame and excuses for rising prices exacerbated by his tariff policies.

Later on March 5, 2025, Velázquez briefly referenced Trump’s initiative with a link saying “Checking in on how Trump’s effort to Make America Affordable Again is going:”, implying skepticism about its effectiveness.
