Nydia Velázquez, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district, recently took to social media to express her concerns over several actions by the Trump administration. Velázquez, who has been in office since 1993 and is known for her outspoken views, highlighted issues she perceives as threats to public health and governance.

On February 19, 2025, Velázquez criticized the Trump administration’s decision to terminate nuclear safety experts and those fighting bird flu. She remarked on Twitter: “If ‘accidentally’ firing nuclear safety experts wasn’t bad enough, the Trump admin has now fired the people fighting bird flu. Trump’s incompetence is a threat to public health.”

Later that day, Velázquez addressed Trump’s opposition to congestion pricing initiatives in New York City and State. She described this as an overreach of power, stating: “Trump’s attempt to stop congestion pricing is blatant overreach. Created by NYC & NYS leaders, this program has passed multiple legal tests & is crucial for cutting traffic, funding transit, & improving air quality. Trump is no king, and we’ll defeat this in court.”

In a town hall meeting held on February 20 in Sunnyside, Velázquez thanked attendees for their engagement and emphasized collective efforts against what she termed “reckless policies” by the Trump administration. She tweeted: “Thank you to everyone who joined my Sunnyside town hall tonight! Grateful for the thoughtful questions & important discussions on how we can work together to push back against Trump’s reckless policies.”
