Nydia Velázquez, a U.S. Congress member representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, has recently expressed her views on several pressing issues through social media. Her comments span topics from national security concerns to the importance of music education in schools.

On March 26, 2025, Velázquez criticized the Trump administration for its handling of national security matters. She stated: “The Trump administration’s incompetence knows no bounds. This reckless disregard for national security puts our nation at risk. Hegseth and Waltz should resign or be fired. Immediately.”

Later that day, she highlighted her efforts to support music education by reintroducing a resolution with Senator Booker. In her tweet, she emphasized the importance of recognizing music educators amidst threats to federal arts funding: “Today, I reintroduced a resolution declaring March Music In Our Schools Month with @SenBooker. With federal arts funding under threat, we must recognize the vital role music education plays and honor the teachers who make it possible.”

In another post on March 26, Velázquez addressed concerns over actions taken by the Trump administration against individuals for their speech. She referenced an incident involving Rumeysa Ozturk, a Fulbright Scholar: “One by one, the Trump admin is going after people for speech they don’t like. Rumeysa Ozturk, a Fulbright Scholar, was ambushed on the street for criticizing U.S. foreign policy. This isn’t immigration enforcement. It’s political repression. She must be released immediately.”
