Rep. Nydia Velázquez, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, recently addressed several issues through her social media platform. Her posts reflect on healthcare for women, conditions faced by IRS workers, and the profit-driven operations of private prisons.
On June 5, 2025, Velázquez criticized the Trump Administration’s approach to women’s health care concerns. She stated “If you’re having a miscarriage, they don’t care. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, they don’t care. If you’re having preeclampsia, they don’t care. If you’re a woman, the Trump Administration does not care.”
Later that day, Velázquez commented on her visit to an IRS office in Brooklyn. In her post from June 5 at 14:24 UTC she remarked “Last week, I visited the IRS office in Brooklyn to stand with the civil servants under attack by DOGE. I saw the overcrowded conditions & lack of support these workers face. These workers keep our government running. Undermining them hurts every taxpayer who depends on the IRS.”
In another statement made on June 5 at 18:58 UTC regarding private prisons’ involvement in immigrant detention, Velázquez expressed concern over profiteering practices during deportation processes. She asserted “Private prisons are profiting from detaining immigrants, even those who’ve requested deportation. Trump’s administration may try to hide the truth, but Congress won’t back down.” We must expose the corruption and hold every profiteer accountable.
Nydia Velázquez has been a vocal advocate for various issues throughout her career since replacing Stephen Solarz in Congress over three decades ago.
