Nydia Velázquez, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, has recently voiced her opinions on several issues via social media. Born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, and currently residing in Brooklyn, Velázquez is known for her strong stance on justice and equality.

On February 15, 2025, Velázquez expressed gratitude towards the Southern District of New York attorneys for their commitment to justice amidst political pressures. She stated: “Now more than ever, we need people willing to stand up for what’s right.”

In another post dated February 18, 2025, she criticized a decision affecting financial regulations. She commented: “Another day, another GOP giveaway to big banks.” Velázquez argued that overturning the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s overdraft fee cap would increase costs for working families while benefiting Wall Street.

On February 19, 2025, Velázquez addressed an incident involving questioning a Latino lawmaker’s citizenship. She described it as xenophobic and demanded an apology from Rep. Lawler: “Unbelievable. Questioning a Latino lawmaker’s citizenship?”
