Nydia Velázquez, a seasoned U.S. Congress member representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, has recently shared her perspectives on various social and economic issues through her Twitter account. The congresswoman addressed topics ranging from immigration to small business support.
On May 10, Velázquez commented on the actions of affluent Trump supporters regarding immigration. She stated, “Rich Trump supporters love to demonize immigrants in public while relying on their labor to build wealth in private. The hypocrisy is a feature, not a flaw.”
In another post dated May 12, Velázquez highlighted local community efforts during Small Business Month. She wrote about her collaboration with TikTok to engage with entrepreneurs in Brooklyn and Queens, expressing enthusiasm for local businesses: “Brooklyn and Queens showing up strong! This #SmallBusinessMonth, I partnered with @tiktok_us to connect with the local entrepreneurs who keep our community thriving. Let’s keep supporting the businesses that make our neighborhoods shine! #SupportLocal”
On May 13, Velázquez turned her attention to economic policies affecting small businesses. Criticizing the impact of Trump’s policies, she remarked at a recent House Democrats Steering and Policy hearing: “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, but Trump’s reckless agenda is putting them in crisis. At last week’s @HouseDemocrats Steering and Policy hearing, I called out SBA cuts, sky-high tariffs, and canceled contracts that are pushing Main Street to the brink.”
Nydia Velázquez was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico in 1953 and resides in Brooklyn. She holds a BA from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras.
