Rep. Nydia Velázquez, who has represented New York’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 1993, recently posted a series of statements on her social media accounts addressing issues ranging from Puerto Rico’s energy crisis to humanitarian concerns in Gaza and questions for the U.S. Vice President.

The following day, July 24, she turned her attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza: “Families in Gaza are starving. Children are dying. People searching for food are being shot. Israel is blocking aid, and over 100 humanitarian groups are sounding the alarm. The U.S. must act now to end the blockade and get life-saving aid to civilians. This is an emergency.”

Later that same day, Velázquez addressed the U.S. Vice President directly via social media: “Can we get an update on this. Mr. Vice President? Guess it’s easy to forget when your boss is all over the files. @VP”

Nydia Velázquez was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico in 1953 and currently resides in Brooklyn at age 70. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras with a BA in 1974 and succeeded Stephen Solarz as representative for New York’s 7th district in Congress.
