Rep. Nydia Velázquez, U.S. Congresswoman representing New York’s 7th district since 1993, recently used her social media platform to address several issues ranging from congressional ethics to Holocaust remembrance and student engagement in technology.
On April 13, Velázquez called for accountability within the U.S. House of Representatives, posting: “Congress should not tolerate representatives who abuse staff, betray public trust for personal gain, and generally violate their oath of office.
Reps. Swalwell, Gonzales, Cherfilus-McCormick, and Mills should resign. If they refuse, they should be expelled.
Americans deserve”.
The following day, April 14, Velázquez marked Yom HaShoah by introducing a bill to honor a historical figure: “Today, on Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, I Introduced a bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal to Rabbi Michoel Ber Weissmandl who saved countless lives during the Holocaust.

On April 15, she highlighted efforts to promote science and technology education among students in her district: “Join my office for our STEAM Fair & Congressional App Challenge Awards Ceremony! At this year’s STEAM Fair, I’ll be presenting awards to our Congressional App Challenge winners, who will showcase their apps and share their work firsthand.

Velázquez has served as the representative for New York’s 7th District since succeeding Stephen Solarz in 1993. Born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico in 1953 and currently residing in Brooklyn at age 70, she holds a BA from the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras (see background information).
