The New York Liberty have announced the signing of Belgian center Emma Meesseman, marking her return to the WNBA for the first time since 2022. Meesseman, who stands at 6’4”, joins the team after a successful run in Europe, where she recently led Belgium to a 2025 FIBA EuroBasket championship and earned her second consecutive tournament MVP award.
Meesseman has had a notable career in European basketball from 2022 to 2025, collecting three EuroLeague MVP honors and six titles while maintaining a shooting percentage consistently above 50%. She is also remembered for her performance with the Washington Mystics during their 2019 WNBA championship run, where she averaged 17.8 points on 57% shooting and was named Finals MVP.
Upon joining the Liberty, Meesseman reunites with Natasha Cloud, her teammate from the Mystics’ title-winning season. The current Liberty roster features seven Olympians representing various countries and is coached by Sandy Brondello.
“Emma brought skill, smarts, and a game that makes everyone around her better,” said the team in its announcement. “She arrived fresh off leading Belgium to a 2025 FIBA EuroBasket title, snagging her second straight MVP in the process.”
Brooklyn fans greeted Meesseman’s arrival with enthusiasm as she became part of an international lineup aiming for further success under Coach Brondello’s leadership.
