The annual P. S. Art exhibition is marking its twenty-third anniversary this year, with The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosting the event for the eighteenth time. This juried exhibition showcases 137 works selected from nearly 1,000 entries by New York City Public School students ranging from prekindergarten to grade 12. The artworks include collages, drawings, mixed-media pieces, paintings, photographs, prints, and sculptures created by students across all five boroughs and District 75.
The exhibition highlights the active participation and decision-making involved in the creation process by these young artists. It reflects their imaginative use of media and understanding of artistic processes while capturing their journeys from early childhood to young adulthood.
Art educators play a crucial role in nurturing student creativity, impacting their social-emotional growth positively. They encourage students to observe their surroundings and express their understanding through art. As students advance through art courses annually, they gain a deeper grasp of artistic principles and refine their technical skills.
The New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) and Arts Office acknowledge Studio in a School (SIAS) and The Met for their partnership in this initiative. SIAS has been instrumental in sponsoring and coordinating P. S. Art 2025, while The Met has played a significant role in selecting the final works and hosting the exhibition.
