New York City FC is set to play its 2026 home opener against Orlando City SC at Yankee Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 2:30PM ET. This marks the second consecutive season that Orlando serves as the opponent for New York City’s first home match.

Orlando City has faced challenges at the start of their campaign, losing both their opening game to the Red Bulls and a subsequent match against Inter Miami CF. New York City aims to capitalize on this and secure another win on Saturday afternoon.

Last season, New York City FC won 11 out of 17 regular-season home games. Head coach Pascal Jansen is focused on improving that record in 2026 as the team seeks a higher position in the Eastern Conference standings. The return to Yankee Stadium also offers an opportunity for players and fans to reconnect after two away games.

A key factor highlighted from recent matches is the impact of substitutions. In Sunday’s game against Philadelphia, Jansen used four substitutes, mirroring his approach from the previous week against LA Galaxy. These changes played a role in maintaining momentum, with three substitutes—Drew Baiera, Kai Trewin, and Talles Magno—involved in the buildup to Tayvon Gray’s winning goal. This depth provides flexibility for Jansen during matches.

Saturday’s fixture will be the 29th meeting between New York City FC and Orlando City since both teams joined Major League Soccer in 2015. In recent encounters, New York City has maintained a strong record with four wins and one draw over their last five meetings. Their most recent clash saw Alonso Martínez score a stoppage-time winner for New York City in Orlando after coming from behind to win 2-1.

Orlando’s last victory over New York City came in 2022 through a late goal by Tesho Akindele. As both teams prepare for Saturday’s match, New York City looks to extend its unbeaten run at the start of this season.
