New York City FC secured a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday night. Andrés Perea scored an early goal for New York City FC, but Dániel Sallói’s second-half equalizer resulted in both teams sharing the points.
The match took place at Children’s Mercy Park, with New York City FC looking to continue their momentum after a recent win over Orlando City SC. Coach Pascal Jansen made three changes to the starting lineup, introducing Tayvon Gray, Jonny Shore, and Julián Fernández.
New York City started strong with early chances from Fernández and Alonso Martínez. Despite efforts from Sporting Kansas City’s Shapi Suleymanov and Logan Ndenbe, it was Andrés Perea who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after receiving a precise pass from Maxi Moralez.
Sporting Kansas City pushed for an equalizer before halftime, with NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese making crucial saves. The second half saw continued pressure from New York City FC, including opportunities created by Justin Haak.
In the 74th minute, Dániel Sallói capitalized on a rebound to level the score for Sporting KC. Coach Jansen responded with substitutions that included Sebastiano Musu making his MLS debut. Musu came close to scoring twice during his time on the field.
Despite late attempts by New York City FC to secure a win, they concluded the match with a draw. Their next game is scheduled against FC Dallas on Friday, July 26.
