New York City FC secured a 1-0 victory over FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium on Saturday night, continuing their unbeaten streak to five matches. The only goal of the match came in the 55th minute from Alonso Martínez, who finished a move set up by Aiden O’Neill and Maxi Moralez.

Head Coach Pascal Jansen made adjustments to his lineup, reintroducing Thiago Martins after injury. Early in the match, Hannes Wolf created an opportunity that forced a save from Cincinnati’s Roman Celentano. Cincinnati responded with several efforts from Evander, but New York City goalkeeper Matt Freese was able to keep them out.

The first half saw limited chances for both teams. Martínez nearly scored in the 31st minute when his shot hit the woodwork. An injury to Andrés Perea led to Jonny Shore entering the game earlier than planned.

In the second half, Fernández Mercau won a dangerous free kick for New York City before Alvas Powell tested Freese at the other end. The decisive moment came soon after when O’Neill found Moralez, who played Martínez through for a composed finish.

Jansen made further substitutions as Agustín Ojeda replaced Wolf and later Julián Fernández came on for Moralez. New York City pressed for another goal with opportunities created by Fernández Mercau and Martínez but were unable to extend their lead.

Cincinnati applied pressure late in the match, including a stoppage-time chance that required an important save from Freese following Gerardo Valenzuela’s header. Despite these efforts, New York City maintained their lead and recorded their fourth away win of the season.

Next, New York City FC will face D.C. United on August 30 at 7:30PM ET.
