Speaker Carl Heastie and Children and Families Committee Chair Andrew Hevesi have announced the allocation of $2.2 billion in the Enacted State Fiscal Year 2025-26 Budget to support childcare services in New York. This includes a significant investment of $400 million aimed at maintaining open enrollment for childcare subsidies across various localities.
Heastie emphasized the Assembly Majority’s commitment to providing New York families with access to safe and affordable childcare. “The funding in this budget is vital to parents looking for a place where their child can learn and grow while they’re at work,” he stated, reinforcing the importance of continued efforts to supply families with necessary resources.
Assemblymember Hevesi highlighted the budget as a crucial investment in both families and children. “Families across New York struggle to find safe and affordable childcare, and this funding will ease that burden on parents, getting them the support they need to provide themselves and their children with a bright future,” he remarked.
The financial plan dedicates $2.2 billion towards childcare subsidies, marking an increase of $400 million compared to SFY 2024-25. Out of this additional amount, $350 million is specifically allocated for ensuring that families within New York City can access childcare subsidy enrollment. The remaining $50 million is designated for social services districts outside of New York City.
