Kosta Mocklis broke the New York University Violets’ career home run record during a game against The City College of New York Beavers on May 1. The Violets won the matchup at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park with a score of 19-4.
The achievement is significant for both Mocklis and the NYU baseball program, as he surpassed the previous home run record set by Nick Argenziano and Colman Hendershot. Mocklis finished the game with eight runs batted in, tying a program single-game RBI record.
Mocklis hit his 22nd career home run in the first inning, giving NYU an early lead. He continued to contribute throughout the game, including hitting a grand slam—his third of the year—in later innings. “If there’s one player who has earned the right to swing on a 3-0 count, it’s Mocklis,” according to team officials.
After briefly falling behind in the second inning, NYU regained control with key hits from CJ Franchini and Aidan Howladar. The Violets used five pitchers to keep CCNY scoreless after that point and secured their eighth non-conference win of the season.
According to team statistics, NYU has now won four consecutive non-conference games. Mocklis is tied for first place in home runs within their conference this season. Franchini has recorded at least one hit in most recent games, while Howladar continues his streak of driving in runs.
The Violets will conclude their season on May 3 against Eastern Connecticut State in Willimantic.
