Michael Novakhov, a New York State Assemblyman representing a Brooklyn district, recently posted several messages on his social media account addressing his personal background, local conditions in Southern Brooklyn, and concerns about city leadership.

On February 23, 2026, Novakhov reflected on his experience as an immigrant and American citizen: “As a Jewish immigrant who became a proud Jewish American, I understand that feeling. America has been a safe home for our people, a place of freedom, opportunity, and dignity. We love this country because we chose it, and we cherish it. Mazal Tov Jack! “ (February 23, 2026).

Later the same day, he commented on the aftermath of snowfall in his district: “I’ve been out in my district in Southern Brooklyn today. The conditions are not where they need to be. It has just stopped snowing minutes ago.

Sidewalks are still blanketed in snow. Crosswalks are blocked. Streets remain difficult to navigate.

Yet Mayor Mamdani has decided to” (February 23, 2026).

On February 24, Novakhov expressed concern about public safety and attitudes toward law enforcement under the new city administration: “Not even two months into Mamdani’s administration and this is already the atmosphere in our city.

When you run on defunding the police and spend years vilifying law enforcement, you create a culture where this kind of disrespect feels acceptable.

Our law enforcement heroes put” (February 24, 2026).

Novakhov immigrated from the former USSR with his family before establishing himself in New York City (official website). He won election to the New York State Assembly in 2022 as a member of the Republican Party (official website). Prior to entering politics, Novakhov spent two decades working in radio and co-founded Freedom FM in 2019 (official website). As an assemblyman for Southern Brooklyn’s diverse communities—including many immigrants—he has focused on crime reduction efforts targeting specific groups and initiatives to improve affordability in health care and housing (official website).

Novakhov’s recent posts reflect ongoing concerns among some residents regarding quality-of-life issues such as public safety and municipal services following changes at City Hall.
