Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has been named the best cancer center in the Northeast and the second-best hospital for cancer care in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals listing. MSK was also ranked as the top hospital in the nation for urology care.

“Being named as the best cancer center in the Northeast, and a top two hospital for cancer care in the nation is an honor,” said Selwyn M. Vickers, MD, FACS, President & CEO of MSK. “This recognition reminds us of MSK’s unique role in the history and future of cancer care and the obligation we have to patients. We are committed to providing world-class cancer care and pursuing breakthrough research to advance our mission of ending cancer for life.”

MSK has consistently ranked among the top two cancer hospitals nationally and has held its position as the leading cancer center in the Northeast since these rankings began more than 35 years ago.

The latest recognition comes amid several achievements by MSK experts, including a study that used only immunotherapy to improve patient quality of life, involvement in clinical trials that led to 11 FDA drug approvals, and receiving Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence for a third time. The institution has also expanded community access to screening services, advanced genomic-driven diagnosis and treatment methods, and contributed to developing new cancer vaccines.

This marks MSK’s third consecutive year as number one nationally for urology care. The urology team includes specialists across surgery, medical oncology, chemotherapy, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and nursing who work together on patient-centered treatments focused on innovation and maintaining quality of life.

Other MSK specialties were recognized on U.S. News & World Report’s top 50 list: gastroenterology & GI surgery at number 14 and ear, nose, and throat at number 25.

“MSK is the most advanced and innovative force against cancer in the world,” Dr. Vickers said. “We will continue to be dedicated to helping individuals with cancer live healthier, more fulfilling lives during and after treatment, ensuring they not only survive but thrive.”

The rankings consider factors such as reputation among board-certified physician specialists, risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, level of nursing care, among others. Details about methodology can be found at U.S. News & World Report.
