For the fifth consecutive year, Maimonides Medical Center has been named a “Best Regional Hospital” by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital improved its standing to No. 18 in New York State and No. 19 in the New York City metro area, rising six spots from last year’s rankings. It was also recognized as a “Best Regional Hospital for Community Access” for the second time since the category began. Maimonides remains the only safety-net and standalone Brooklyn hospital to receive these distinctions this year.

The medical center was rated high performing in 16 adult specialties, procedures, and conditions. The two high-performing adult specialties were not specified in the announcement. Fourteen procedures and conditions received high-performance ratings—an increase from nine in last year’s report—including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart attack, pacemaker implantation, pneumonia, among others. There were no below-average ratings for any procedures or conditions.

Additionally, another facility within the Maimonides Health system was recognized by U.S. News & World Report for high performance in four procedures and conditions: heart failure, COPD, kidney failure, and pneumonia.

“This year’s U.S. News & World Report rankings reflect our team’s commitment to consistently improving overall quality of care,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “Moreover, we are especially proud to be recognized as high performing in more specialty areas than any other Brooklyn hospital this year. This expertise, along with our community focus, sets us apart as Brooklyn’s essential hub for outstanding specialty and community care. We look forward to continuing to expand our expertise and essential services for Brooklyn patients, including our soon-to-open expanded pediatric and psychiatric emergency departments and our updated cardiac catheterization lab set to open at Maimonides Medical Center in 2026.”

“We are continuing to drive our excellence in quality improvement here at Maimonides, and we are proud to see this reflected in this year’s report,” said Sameh Samy, Chief Quality Officer and Vice President of Quality Management at Maimonides. “This is the result of strong efforts across our system, at every level, including frontline clinical staff, administrators, and our leadership, to create and reinforce a culture of excellence as we serve our community.”

Maimonides also holds high rankings according to Healthgrades data for several areas of surgical care statewide; it ranks second in New York State for one specialty and third for prostate surgery based on their assessments (https://www.healthgrades.com/). The hospital has received multiple Specialty Excellence Awards from Healthgrades: it is among the top 5% nationwide for orthopedic surgery from 2022–2025; top 5% nationally in prostate surgery; top 5% nationally for outpatient prostate care; top 10% nationally for surgical care; plus five-star ratings across nine clinical services.

Newsweek also included Maimonides Medical Center among America’s Best-in-State Hospitals for 2024 as the No. 19 Hospital in New York State—the only Brooklyn-based hospital on that list (https://www.newsweek.com/rankings/americas-best-in-state-hospitals-2024/new-york).

Nationally, only 504 hospitals earned recognition as a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report this year (https://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/area/ny/maimonides-medical-center-6211080). Maimonides is the only standalone hospital from Brooklyn on this list and is within the top 10% of U.S. hospitals that received a numerical ranking.
