Maimonides Health has adopted a next-generation 3D imaging system, marking a first for Brooklyn. This advanced technology allows surgical teams to view anatomical structures like the brain and spinal cord at up to 26x magnification on a 55-inch 4K-3D monitor. The system is designed to reduce surgeon fatigue and improve patient safety by providing high-resolution images that are more ergonomic.

“Maimonides is thrilled to be the first hospital in Brooklyn to use this state-of-the-art surgery technology, which will enable us to continue delivering excellent care,” said John Marshall, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Maimonides Health. “As the largest health care system in Brooklyn, a borough of 2.6 million, Maimonides is committed to investing in advanced technology in pursuit of providing the best to our community.”

Randy Clark, President of Medical Systems Group at Olympus Corporation of the Americas, expressed pride in partnering with Maimonides Health: “The ORBEYE video microscope’s combined benefits in surgeon ergonomics, imaging quality, small footprint and the inclusion of the entire surgical team represent a first in the microsurgery field. We are excited to share these advancements with Maimonides.”

Neurosurgeon Roee Ber, MD from Maimonides Health noted changes brought by using ORBEYE: “Using the ORBEYE has changed the way I operate. It decreases my mental and physical burden while performing microsurgery on delicate structures such as the brain and spinal cord.” He emphasized that it enhances teamwork and efficiency.

Christine Mau, MD also a neurosurgeon at Maimonides Health highlighted its impact: “The 3D enhanced visualization of neural and vasculature structures using the ORBEYE is unparalleled. It has significantly improved our ability to safely remove tumors and clip aneurysms through minimally invasive and open approaches.”

The ORBEYE video microscope replaces traditional lens-based optics across various specialties including neurological (brain and spine), pediatric surgeries among others at Maimonides Health for improved precision and outcomes.

Olympus Corporation provides solutions across medical life sciences industries aiming at improving clinical outcomes through innovative technologies such as endoscopes laparoscopes video imaging systems etc., enhancing quality life reducing costs globally.
