Luka Dončić, a leading NBA player and current member of the Los Angeles Lakers, visited Yankee Stadium on Monday night during a promotional stop for Jordan Brand. While at the stadium, Dončić joined broadcasters Michael Kay and David Cone in the YES Network booth as the New York Yankees played against the Tampa Bay Rays.
“[I played baseball] a lot,” Dončić said. “On the Wii console.”
During his visit to New York, Dončić met with Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Miami Marlins player Jazz Chisholm Jr., both of whom are also affiliated with Jordan Brand. The three athletes exchanged gifts: Judge presented Dončić with a Yankees No. 77 jersey and signed cleats, while Dončić gave Judge a pair of his “NY vs. NY” Jordan Luka .77s.
Kay commented on Dončić’s physical condition since last appearing on television, noting he looked “shredded.” Kay added, “And now he’s joining us in the booth,” followed by, “where we’re not shredded.”
The conversation included topics such as Dončić’s offseason training routine and his recent trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers.
When asked about his baseball skills outside of video games, Dončić replied: “Yeah, on Wii, I was great,” adding, “Here? Probably not.”
Dončić did not commit to being a Yankees fan but said he enjoyed attending the game and watching one of sports’ most historic teams play.
Dončić is recognized for his basketball achievements including five All-Star selections, five All-NBA First Team honors, Rookie of the Year Award, 2023-24 NBA scoring title and MVP Award from the 2024 Western Conference Finals.
