Midfielder Justin Haak has left New York City FC to join LA Galaxy, according to an announcement from the club. Haak, who is originally from Brooklyn, joined the New York City FC Academy at the U14 level and signed his first professional contract with the team in 2019. He was among the first Homegrown players in the club’s history.

During his time with New York City FC, Haak made 111 appearances across all competitions. He scored three goals and provided five assists while playing both in midfield and defense. Haak also played for New York City FC II, the club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, where he scored two goals in eight matches.

Haak’s development through the academy system highlights New York City FC’s approach to nurturing local talent and offering player development opportunities through its Academy and Second Team. His progress led to significant contributions at the First Team level.

Haak was part of the squad that won New York City FC’s first MLS Cup in 2021 and also played in the Campeones Cup victory at Yankee Stadium in 2022. As a member of the original U14 Academy team formed in 2015, he helped secure titles such as the Generation adidas Cup and USDA Championship in 2017 and 2018.

The club stated: “New York City FC thanks Justin for his commitment to the Club and to the New York City community and wishes Justin continued success in the next chapter of his career.”
