Jamora Alves of St. John’s was named the BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her performances over the weekend, according to an April 7 announcement from the league office.
The recognition highlights Alves as the first St. John’s athlete to receive a weekly honor during the 2026 outdoor season and marks her fourth career weekly award. She is also the first field athlete from St. John’s to earn this distinction since Linn Hertz Saebbo was recognized during the indoor season in December.
Alves, who is from Grenada, won both discus and shot put events at the 2026 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships on April 3 at Icahn Stadium. Her achievements included a season-best throw of 51.80 meters in discus, which currently leads all competitors in the BIG EAST and ranks her 26th in the NCAA East Region. In shot put, she recorded a mark of 14.81 meters, earning gold medals in both events and being named Most Outstanding Field Performer.
Her efforts contributed to St. John’s securing back-to-back outdoor team titles with a total score of 207 points at the championships.
Looking ahead, Alves and her teammates are scheduled to compete at this weekend’s South Florida Invitational hosted by USF at the USF Track and Field Complex.
