Ben Yamuder, an exercise physiologist at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), discussed the health benefits of Japanese interval walking in a recent interview with NBC TODAY. This method consists of alternating between slow and fast-paced walking for a total of 30 minutes.
“I think going into four-plus days a week of brisk walking, you’re going to see improvement no matter what,” said Yamuder.
Yamuder noted that this type of interval walking can help improve blood glucose levels and insulin resistance. “Your muscles are working harder, and blood sugar gets absorbed through muscles so it’s great way to kind of control your blood sugar, especially for older people,” he added.
