Elizabeth E. Brown, MD, a physiatrist at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), discussed the range of pelvic health conditions in an interview with Westport Magazine. Dr. Brown explained that symptoms can include constipation, pain during defecation, pain with intercourse, urinary frequency or urgency, and pelvic pain experienced during daily activities.

Dr. Brown emphasized the importance of a thorough evaluation and open discussion about symptoms as the first step toward finding solutions. She noted that many patients benefit from physical therapy or pelvic floor physical therapy. In some cases, medications may be recommended. There are also various injection treatments available that target the pelvic floor, such as trigger point injections or Botox injections.

Dr. Brown stated her preference for a comprehensive and holistic approach to care, which includes addressing lifestyle or activity changes that could help reduce pain.
