Speaker Carl Heastie visited Nassau County as part of his annual statewide tour, accompanied by Assemblywoman Judy Griffin. The visit included a stop at Baldwin High School’s wellness center and Innovation Learning Collaboratory.

“Investing in our young people is critical to shaping our future,” Speaker Heastie stated. “These new facilities will provide students the opportunity to work towards growing their mental and physical well-being so that they can focus on school and grow into the well-rounded citizens of tomorrow.”

Assemblywoman Griffin expressed her gratitude for Speaker Heastie’s visit, saying, “I’m honored to have Speaker Heastie here today to see the investment my community is making in our students. The wellness center and innovation facility will provide our students the tools and resources they need to thrive in all aspects of their lives. I am so proud that the Baldwin School District has created and built these dynamic facilities to serve their student body.”

During the visit, they met with Dr. Shari Camhi, superintendent of schools for the Baldwin Union Free School District; Anthony Mignella, assistant superintendent for instruction; and Mary Jo O’Hagan, president of the Baldwin Board of Education. They toured the Health and Wellness Center, which will offer medical, physical, and behavioral healthcare services through collaboration with Harmony Healthcare Long Island.

Additionally, Speaker Heastie and Assemblywoman Griffin toured what was once the school’s library, now transformed into the Innovation Learning Collaboratory. This space is designed to provide an open environment where students can develop collaboration skills necessary for their future careers.
