Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, recently used his social media platform to reaffirm support for organized labor and respond to former President Donald Trump’s actions and statements.
On August 25, 2025, Jeffries stated: “House Democrats will always stand with organized labor.”
The following day, he addressed a recent comment by Donald Trump, posting: “Statement on Donald Trump’s baseless attack on Dr. Lisa Cook.” This post came amid ongoing political discourse involving the Federal Reserve and its board members.
Later on August 26, Jeffries criticized Trump’s approach to economic policy: “Donald Trump is bullying companies, micromanaging corporate decision-making and trying to take over the Federal Reserve. Hugo Chavez would be proud. Why aren’t Republicans and so-called defenders of the free market complaining? Complete phonies.”
Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Edolphus Towns in 2013. Before joining Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, Jeffries continues to reside there. He holds a BA from Binghamton University (1992) and a JD from New York University (1997).
