Hakeem Jeffries, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, addressed several national issues and defended California Governor Gavin Newsom in a series of posts on his social media account.

On February 23, 2026, Jeffries wrote in support of Governor Newsom: “Governor @GavinNewsom has championed issues important to the African American community for decades. He is not a racist. Deranged far-right extremists are lying again and they know it. Pipe Down.”

The following day, on February 24, 2026, Jeffries commented on economic concerns: “The affordability crisis is real. And the state of our union is weak. You. Deserve. Better.” Later that day, he shared a post containing only a link: “https://t.co/SsBVCAdZ94”.

Jeffries has served in Congress since replacing Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970 and currently residing there, he holds degrees from Binghamton University and New York University School of Law.
