Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, recently addressed issues related to crime in Washington, D.C., and national policy decisions through a series of posts on his social media account.
On August 11, 2025, Jeffries stated: “Violent crime in Washington, D.C. is at a thirty-year low. Donald Trump has no basis to take over the local police department. And zero credibility on the issue of law and order. Get lost.”
The following day, August 12, he commented further: “The crime scene in D.C. most damaging to everyday Americans is at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.”
On August 13, Jeffries indicated his willingness to engage directly with former President Trump upon his return from Russia: “I am prepared to meet with President Trump upon his return from Russia. There are several issues to discuss, including the Republican failure to lower the high cost of living and their devastating cuts to healthcare. Let’s get at it.”
Hakeem Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970 and currently residing there, Jeffries holds degrees from Binghamton University (BA) and New York University (JD).
