Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has recently voiced criticism of the Trump administration and Republican leadership through a series of posts on social media.
On February 5, 2026, Jeffries addressed concerns regarding immigration enforcement, stating, “ICE is out of control and has gone too far. The Trump administration should focus on violent felons who are here illegally. Instead they are targeting American citizens and law abiding immigrant families. Enough.”
The following day, he commented on political figures and party alignment, writing on February 6, 2026: “President Obama and Michelle Obama are brilliant, compassionate and patriotic Americans. They represent the best of this country. Donald Trump is a vile, unhinged and malignant bottom feeder. Why are GOP leaders like John Thune continuing to stand by this sick individual?”
On February 7, 2026, Jeffries further criticized the current presidency’s approach to national unity: “Presidents should unite the country. This guy is doing all he can to divide us. Enough.”
Hakeem Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, Jeffries continues to reside there today. He holds a BA from Binghamton University (1992) and a JD from New York University (1997).
