Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has recently taken to social media to criticize Republican policies and advocate for Democratic reforms.

On February 22, 2026, Jeffries addressed the issue of tariffs on American goods, writing, “The Trump Tariffs have raised costs on everyday Americans. Now that they have been struck down Republicans want to reimpose them on you. A better plan is to give American families their money back. NOW.”

Later the same day, he commented on Department of Homeland Security reform efforts: “Democrats want dramatic reform at DHS. Republican extremists would rather shut down TSA. You deserve better.”

On February 23, 2026, Jeffries criticized Republicans’ foreign policy direction and focus on domestic issues: “Republicans are plotting to get our country into another costly and failed war in the Middle East. Meanwhile. They haven’t done a damn thing to make your life more affordable. Why won’t they focus on the country’s most pressing problems?”

Jeffries has served in Congress since replacing Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, he continues to reside there and holds degrees from Binghamton University and New York University.
