Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has used his social media platform to address legislative priorities and ongoing national issues in a series of recent posts.
On July 21, 2025, Jeffries criticized the legislative direction of House Republicans, stating: “House Democrats are focused on fixing a broken system to make life more affordable for everyday Americans. The one big ugly bill instead prioritizes massive tax breaks for billionaires. Shame on these extremists.”
The following day, on July 22, 2025, he posted a brief message regarding the case of Breonna Taylor: “Justice for Breonna Taylor.”
Later that same day, Jeffries addressed the issue of transparency surrounding files related to Jeffrey Epstein. He wrote: “Donald Trump and House Republicans have the power to release the Epstein files today. They refuse to do it. What are they hiding from the American people? https://t.co/fNN537mSBv”
Jeffries’ remarks come as part of his broader advocacy work as a legislator from Brooklyn, New York City. Born in Brooklyn in 1970 and residing there currently, Jeffries earned his undergraduate degree from Binghamton University in 1992 and completed his law degree at New York University in 1997. Before entering Congress in 2013—succeeding Edolphus Towns—he served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012.
