Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has recently posted a series of statements on his Twitter account criticizing Republican economic and legislative actions while emphasizing the unity and goals of House Democrats.
On July 17, 2025, Jeffries stated, “Republicans are driving the economy off a cliff. There is a better way. House Democrats are fighting for an America where everyone who works hard and plays by the rules can afford to live the good life.”
The following day, on July 18, 2025, he addressed ongoing legislative conflicts in Congress: “House Republicans continue to robotically rubber stamp the extreme and unpopular Trump agenda. Every single House Democrat strongly opposed the reckless Republican rescissions bill. We remain unified in defending the American people. Extremists are doing the exact opposite.”
On July 19, 2025, Jeffries thanked television host Stephen Colbert for his commentary: “Thank you Stephen Colbert for your willingness to speak truth to power. Staying far from timid. And never bending the knee to a wannabe king.”
Hakeem Jeffries was born in Brooklyn in 1970 and continues to reside there at age 52. Before entering Congress in 2013 after replacing Edolphus Towns, he served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. He holds a BA from Binghamton University (1992) and a JD from New York University (1997).
