Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has posted a series of tweets criticizing Republican actions in Congress and reaffirming Democratic opposition to certain GOP initiatives.
On July 30, 2025, Jeffries wrote: “Extreme MAGA Republicans have been ordered by the cult leader to gerrymander the Texas congressional map. These corrupt sycophants cannot win a free and fair election. So they are trying to steal it.”
The following day, on July 31, he stated: “Democrats will never bend the knee to a wannabe king.”
Later that same day, Jeffries published another tweet listing several criticisms of Republican legislative priorities for the year: “What have Republicans been up to this year? Gut Medicaid Take food from children Reward billionaire donors Privatize Social Security Fire Veterans Mask ICE identities Try to rig the midterms Release the Epstein files “
Jeffries has served as a member of Congress for New York’s 8th District since succeeding Edolphus Towns in 2013. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, Jeffries holds degrees from Binghamton University and New York University School of Law and continues to reside in Brooklyn.
