Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has used his social media platform to criticize House Republicans over healthcare policy and government funding priorities.

On October 5, 2025, Jeffries posted: “Republicans would rather shut down the government. Than support healthcare for hardworking American taxpayers. You deserve better.”

The following day, on October 6, he continued his criticism with another post: “House Republicans think protecting the healthcare of everyday Americans is less important than their vacation. We strongly disagree. Cancel the Cuts. Lower the Cost. Save Healthcare.”

On October 7, Jeffries addressed the financial burden faced by Americans seeking medical care: “Everyday Americans already pay too much to see a doctor or visit the hospital. The Republican healthcare crisis is making things worse. You deserve better.”

Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th District in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Edolphus Towns. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, Jeffries continues to reside there and holds degrees from Binghamton University and New York University School of Law.
