Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, marked the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act and criticized Republican policies in a series of posts on his official Twitter account.
On August 6, 2025, Jeffries wrote, “The Voting Rights Act was signed into law 60 years ago today. Republican extremists are determined to turn back the clock. We will never let that happen.”
The following day, he addressed economic issues related to tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump: “Donald Trump’s tariffs are raising prices. The extremists promised to lower costs. Instead. Republican policies are making your life more expensive.” This statement comes amid ongoing debates about the impact of tariffs on consumer prices in the United States.
Later on August 7, Jeffries commented on Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton: “Ken Paxton is the most corrupt Attorney General in Texas history. This malignant clown was impeached by his own party. He has ZERO credibility on issues of law and order. Pipe down.”
Jeffries has served in Congress since succeeding Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, he continues to reside there and holds degrees from Binghamton University and New York University School of Law.
