Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues ranging from alleged gerrymandering in Texas to rising consumer costs under Republican leadership.
On August 20, 2025, Jeffries commented on recent developments in Texas: “The racially gerrymandered Texas map is a clear violation of the Fourteenth Amendment. And the 1965 Voting Rights Act. This corrupt power grab by desperate Republican hacks will be fought in the legislature and in federal court. Until victory is won.”
Continuing his criticism of Republican policies, Jeffries wrote on August 21, 2025: “Donald Trump and House Republicans promised to lower costs on day one. Meanwhile. Wholesale vegetable prices increased by almost 40% last month.”
He followed up with another post on August 22, 2025: “Electricity bills are skyrocketing throughout the country. Donald Trump and House Republicans haven’t lowered costs, they are raising them. You deserve better.”
Hakeem Jeffries has served as a member of Congress for New York’s 8th District since replacing Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, he continues to reside there today and holds degrees from Binghamton University and New York University School of Law.
