Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has criticized House Republicans and former President Donald Trump in a series of recent social media posts regarding the cost of living and political maneuvering in Texas.

On August 16, 2025, Jeffries posted: “Donald Trump and House Republicans have done nothing to lower the high cost of living. And the American people know it.”

Two days later, on August 18, 2025, he continued his criticism with another post: “The cost of living in America under reckless Republican policies is way too high. You deserve better.”

Addressing political developments in Texas on August 19, 2025, Jeffries wrote: “House Republicans thought we would not forcefully respond to their gerrymandering power grab in Texas. Democrats are hitting back hard. And the Trump sycophants have the nerve to complain. Get lost.”

Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th District since replacing Edolphus Towns in Congress in 2013. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jeffries graduated from Binghamton University with a BA in 1992 and earned a JD from New York University in 1997.
