Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, has recently commented on social media regarding the upcoming State of the Union address and responded to criticism from former President Donald Trump.

On February 19, 2026, Jeffries posted support for Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger’s role in the national political spotlight. He wrote, “Delighted that Governor Abigail Spanberger will deliver the Democratic response to the State of the Union address.

Dedicated Public Servant. Mom. National Security Professional. Champion for working families and the Middle Class.

Big difference between @GovernorVA’s relentless https://t.co/pH5P8szLXu“.

Later that day, Jeffries addressed comments made by former President Trump regarding his opposition to legislative efforts. In a direct statement, he said, “Trump just called me a “low IQ individual” for brutally criticizing his horrible One Big Ugly Bill.

This from the dumbest President in American history.

A day earlier, on February 18, 2026, Jeffries shared another post with a link: https://t.co/lSTM54B68u.

Hakeem Jeffries has served in Congress since replacing Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970 and currently residing there at age 52, Jeffries holds degrees from Binghamton University (BA) and New York University (JD).
