Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, posted a series of statements on social media addressing recent legislative actions and federal spending priorities.

On February 11, 2026, Jeffries announced the passage of new legislation in the House targeting tariffs enacted during the Trump administration. He wrote, “The House just passed legislation to detonate one of the Trump Tariffs that are making your life more expensive. Boom.”

The following day, on February 12, he shared a post containing only a link: “https://t.co/cqcx2ARrfC”.

Later on February 12, Jeffries commented on federal budget allocations with a statement about government spending and law enforcement practices. He stated, “Taxpayer dollars should be used to lower the high cost of living and make healthcare affordable. Not fund untrained and masked ICE agents who are brutalizing the American people. Enough.”

Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Edolphus Towns in 2013. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970 and currently residing there, Jeffries holds degrees from Binghamton University (BA) and New York University (JD).
