Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, used his social media platform to address recent legislative developments concerning healthcare and government spending.

On October 3, 2025, Jeffries posted: “The partisan Republican spending bill that guts healthcare was just defeated. Again. Democrats are holding the line. #TrumpsHealthcareShutdown”

The following day, on October 4, 2025, he continued: “Donald Trump expected us to back down. Democrats continue to stand up to protect healthcare for everyday Americans. #RepublicanShutdown”

Later that same day, Jeffries added a brief message: “Save Healthcare. https://t.co/E8F7syJSwZ”

Jeffries has been a member of Congress since replacing Edolphus Towns in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970 and currently residing there, Jeffries holds a BA from Binghamton University and a JD from New York University.
