The following day, June 21, 2025, Jeffries criticized a GOP tax policy via Twitter. He expressed concern that the policy would negatively impact Medicaid and result in hospital closures across America. He attributed these changes to Republican efforts to provide significant tax breaks for wealthy donors: “The GOP Tax Scam guts Medicaid and will close hospitals throughout America. Why? So Republicans can reward their billionaire donors with massive tax breaks.”

Hakeem Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th District since 2013 after serving in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born in Brooklyn in 1970, he graduated from Binghamton University and holds a JD from New York University.
