Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 8th district since 2013, recently addressed several national issues on his social media account, focusing on Republican leadership, disaster relief efforts, and a recent shooting in Manhattan.

On July 27, 2025, Jeffries criticized the direction of the country under current leadership: “Failed Republican leadership has brought the country more division and less opportunity. The United States is headed in the wrong direction. And the American people know it.”

Later that day, he commented on Republican priorities during a period of historic flooding: “Republicans should be providing relief to families whose lives have been devastated by historic flooding. Instead they are trying to rig the election by gerrymandering the Texas congressional map. These extremists are unfit to govern.” (July 27, 2025)

On July 29, 2025, following a violent incident in Midtown Manhattan, Jeffries posted: “Deeply disturbed by the horrific shooting in Midtown Manhattan. Praying hard for the brave NYPD officer impacted and all other victims of this tragedy. May God watch over our city during this challenging moment.”

Jeffries has represented New York’s 8th district since replacing Edolphus Towns in Congress in 2013 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. Born and residing in Brooklyn, Jeffries holds degrees from Binghamton University and New York University School of Law.
